Actually, they had just been invented. Eventually, they were used to help your tunic dry out after a bloody battle.
But at this point, somebody had said, "Why don't we just attach them to some boobs?"

Problem is that back in the day when people wore tunics and battered each other with swords they would probably have looked more like this
11140_01.jpg ... entirely suitable for tunic-suspension but not all that great for nipple-clamping and boob-paining ... that had to wait for more advanced, enlightened times ...

Posting the best two girls in crux. We don't see much of the first girl ever, although she is the most innocent and sweet looking crux model. Christa is the last one from an angle we don't normally see.
