The two Nubians take their places on either side of the beam, and Sabina knows they are about to drag her to the post and lift her up to hang by her wrists. Sabina narrates:

Ajax and Hercules took their places on either end of the timber and I knew what was coming. I had seen it done to others so many times. And I had laughed along with the crowd at the way those others had screamed and writhed. And now they were going to do it to me. They were preparing to move the patibulum over against the cross, and they were going to drag me by the nails in my wrists. And then they would lift me up to hang on the cross.​

I had never felt so completely helpless. All I could do was watch in horror as they knelt down and took hold of the ends of the beam. Any thoughts of hiding my shame from the crowd were gone. I pulled my feet up close to my buttocks, hoping that I could somehow ease myself upward and prevent the nails from pulling against my throbbing wrists, even if just for this last moment before they lifted me onto my cross. My porcella was spread wide for the onlookers to see, but that didn’t matter, not now, not at this moment or ever again.​

I took a deep breath and held it in anticipation, just before the beam began to move.​

The nails jerked and twisted inside my wrists with the first movement of the beam. I let out my breath in a groan of agony and fear. They slid it briskly out from under my shoulders and neck, rough wood rasping on raw, welted skin, until my shoulders slid off it and dropped onto the ground. Then they began lifting it, pulling on my wrists. I quickly tried to stretch out my arms and follow it as they lifted.​

But then my arms were stretched out straight, and I tried to push with my feet, but I couldn’t keep up. I screamed in pain as the pull on my outstretched, quivering arms began to lift my shoulders and then my torso. I heard laughter from the crowd.​

And then they began to pull and me by the wrists, my raw buttocks dragging along the ground and I was scrambling to try to push with my legs and help, and I was babbling please no don’t oh gods it hurts please stop stop stop and then I was just screaming and writhing and the nails were twisting and jerking in my wounds and the agony filled my mind and forced out all thought.​

Balbus the executioner also described the sight of Sabina being dragged by her nailed wrists:

Just then Hercules and Ajax lifted the patibulum and began pulling it, along with the little slave girl, toward the stipes. The loud, piercing screams of agony began again.​

I’d had her whipped just enough to mark her up well, show that she was being properly punished and draw a crowd, but not too bloody, so she’d last a long time on the cross. She’d draw a lot of cocksuckers who’d enjoy seeing her struggling up there naked, and they’d tell others. Good for business.​

​

And like all crucifixion victims, she was writhing and scrambling trying to get her legs under her to save her wrists. The difference with this one was that she had nice tits and ass and she was giving the crowd a great show. I should have found a way to charge them all to watch.​

This crucifixion is not as shocking to them as it would be to someone from a culture where seeing naked victims nailed to crosses was not commonplace.

Time grows shorter until the executioner's helpers will drag her to her cross.

The timber comes to rest against the post as Sabina, screaming in agony, struggles to push herself up, get her weight off of those nails as much as she can.

Not everyone is going to like this scene. I don't like it much myself! It happens. In the next scene, Sabina is kneeling, so what happens between the scene where she's being dragged and the scene where she's kneeling? There has to be a point where she's struggling awkwardly, but maybe not like this. Oh well. I might redo this scene but for the moment, here it is.

I am a big fan of this scene cos it's obscene (a line from a misbegotten rap song? ) -- and Sabina's pose feels so dynamic.

Today my mood a bit changed by seeing this...
As I read the whole story repeatly already...

My practical mind told me -
she became a wanton wretch who deserved it. She wanted to expose her own body for public spectacle, be abused and tortured, she got what she wanted. This is like bad people suffered hell for what have they done. Surely, she will go to hell 99% after that. What a wasted of her glamorous life !

But in my bitchy mind-
I wanna be in her place !
This kinda sensational nakedness and suffering before public deserved to give up wealth and life ?

P.S it will be like using narcotics that will lead to life's end prematurely.

You only know that because you've read the ending, so it spoils the story when you read it again. But it also explains some of her behavior that is puzzling if you don't know what's really going on.

For Sabina it is an addiction just like a narcotic! When she got to play at being crucified in the brothel back in Pompeii, it gave her some satisfaction for a little while so her cravings were not as bad. Without that opportunity it kept getting worse until she would rather face death than go on that way.

Sabina struggles into a kneeling position while the executioners pause for a moment. Ajax takes the opportunity to chat up Verina, as can be seen in the last render. Balbus narrates this scene:

In just a few heartbeats, they had her in front of the stipes. She had managed to get herself into a kind of kneeling position with her legs splayed awkwardly. Antius motioned for Hercules and Ajax to pause for a moment, then told them to go slowly. Antius is a good executioner. He has learned that the show is important, he knows how to let the drama build when he can, and he recognizes when a moment happens that should be prolonged.​

This was one of those moments. Even after seeing her naked at her whipping, and again as my crew nailed her wrists, I found myself staring at the sight of her in that position, with her legs spread wide, tight body twisting and straining. The only sound was the slave girl panting for breath along with her moans of pain and terror. None of the useless cocksuckers were jeering or joking with each other. Every eye – certainly every male eye – was fixed on her and I’d bet most of them felt their cocks hardening just like I did.​
