It’s like I’ve said in the past, it’s GREAT to see you constantly reinventing yourself, your characters, and your ART, despite advancing age and other challenges you’ve faced over the years.
I’ve also seen you walk away from it in the past, only to thankfully return. You strike a chord in so many of us who grew up with a certain theology and I wonder if you realize how deep that runs. It involves, for those of us who can acknowledge it, the inherently sexual nature of the theological iconography to which we were exposed as impressionable children. Complex psychological stuff. And definitely NOT just KINK!
I note you have never depicted the DEATH of Sabina and I hope you never do. She’s now YOU and I can’t wait to see the continuing evolution of this extraordinary character. As long as it gives you the pleasure to create, you will have a rapt, appreciative audience.

Antius has finished nailing Sabina's right foot to the cross, and now he turns his attention to her left foot. He probes it for the spot where the nail will go while she again can only watch in horror. So much agony already, only this last way to support herself and that is being taken away. Here's what the script said was happening in this picture:

Having finished nailing her right foot, Antius probes Sabina’s left foot as she looks down in horror. It is the last support she has left. Ajax, standing behind the cross, says something funny to Hercules. Redhead and friend still talking and laughing. Most are watching Antius.​

Note in these pictures, Sabina's right leg where the foot is nailed is bent while her left leg is fairly straight, supporting her weight. That will all change when Antius begins driving the nail. And she can't forget the cornu between her legs.

I grew up Methodist, converted to Baptist as a young adult. We occasionally saw pictures of some of that iconography and religious art, almost never of anyone but Jesus. If you were Catholic, you were shown a lot more of that type of artwork than I was. And yes, I recognize the sexual aspects of that. What really started me on my own obsession was reading Jim Bishop's The Day Christ Died when I was twelve. Naked crucifixion, nails through wrists and feet, even the mention of the cornu being used - sexual torture! It didn't take long for that to tweak my imagination toward naked women crucified. But I can definitely see how all that religious iconography could capture your imagination, over and over.

I note you have never depicted the DEATH of Sabina and I hope you never do.

I thought about it, but decided against it. I wouldn't enjoy having to create a scene with a dead, cold Sabina being taken down from the cross or eaten by crows.

In Scene 17x3, Antius has drawn his hammer back, preparing to deliver another blow to the nail in Sabina's right foot. Here's what the script says this scene should show:

Antius draws back to hit the nail again. It is already driven about halfway down. Sabina’s eyes roll back, she is close to fainting but struggling to stay conscious, afraid of dropping on the cornu. Onlookers still mostly watch Antius and Sabina’s foot. Redhead and friend still talking.​

Every blow of the hammer is a shock of agony for Sabina, the nail tearing the wound wider, the rough iron rasping through torn flesh and nerves. In the renders that show her face, you can see that her eyes are rolled back, showing that she is struggling on the edge of unconsciousness already. Another stroke of the hammer might push her right over that edge and slumping down onto the cornu.

Those two guys standing behind Antius in pics one and two better be careful not to get to close as he swings the hammer! Being hit in the nuts with that would sting!

Sabina feels the point of the nail pressing against the top of her left foot as Antius draws back his hammer to drive it into her. Here's what the script says should be going on in this scene:

Antius places the point of the fourth nail against Sabina’s foot and draws back his hammer to strike. Sabina screams and tries to pull her foot away but can’t. Everyone watches her feet except Julia Lepida, who watches her face.​

That's what the script said, but when I got to creating that scene, I ended up with others watching Sabina's face, too. Ajax seems to be watching her ass - wonder why? It's not just because it's a nice ass. We will learn why shortly.

How many hammer blows does it take to drive a large crucifixion nail through a person's foot? In the paper "Clinical Anatomy of Crucifixion" by Stephen Bordes, et al, where they drove square spikes through the palms, wrists and feet of five human cadavers with a surgical hammer, they stated, "For the feet, approximately three strikes per foot were
needed." This was based on nailing ten human feet to wooden blocks. Afterward they dissected the wounds and examined the damage. Now, the largest surgical hammer is about two pounds, and Antius' hammer is a three-pound sledge. I know, because it is in my toolbox right now and I've had it for about forty years. So maybe Sabina has two strokes of the hammer to endure before the nail transfixes her foot to the timber, and maybe another half-dozen before it is driven all the way down into the wood.

This is the fourth time she's had a nail driven through her body, the second time through her feet. No wonder she's screaming in panic. She's about to lose her last uninjured support, and the cornu is there between her legs. She can't allow herself to fall on that, and there is the prospect of having to hang by her nailed wrists again, still throbbing. She needs all the time she can get to relieve them some, but that's not going to be.

Meanwhile, most of the crowd's attention is held by Antius' hammer and the nail about to be driven through the slave girl's foot right in front of them. Several of them are looking at her screaming face, watching for her reaction when the hammer strikes. The redhead (V4-2) is still discussing things with her friend (V4-10).

Well, I messed up and posted a repeat of the renders from the previous day in my last post. And nobody said a thing! Those were supposed to be renders of Antius placing the nail against her foot and drawing his hammer back to strike with Sabina screaming for him to stop. Well, here's the set I meant to post yesterday, sorry for the mix-up!

The hammer strikes, driving the point of the nail deeply into Sabina's left foot. With nothing left to support her, she shifts her weight onto the nail in her right foot, throwing her head back and screaming in agony. Her body writhes and she slips down dangerously close to the point of the cornu. Maybe she feels it touch her between the legs as she struggles and tries desperately to lift her body a little higher. Here's what the script said was supposed to happen in this scene:

Antius delivers the first blow to the nail in her left foot. Sabina screams, her left knee folds a little and she slips down a little on the cross. She has to transfer part of her weight back onto her right foot, already nailed. She is also pulling upward with her arms now, trying to bear some of her weight with her nailed wrists.​

All of the onlookers stare at her, enjoying the writhing and twisting of her body as she struggles desperately. Here are the top ten renders from this set:

The download site has about four times the number of renders per scene than what I'm posting here with the ten-attachment limit - all the ones I didn't use for illustrations in the story. There are some really good ones I had to pass over when selecting the ten I posted here. It's up to you, don't bother if it doesn't interest you.

Yes, if you imagine how helpless she is, humiliated, degraded and now everything is continuous agony. No way to escape the pain, and now the panic as each blow of the hammer makes it worse. Wanting it to stop, and trying to remember that there's a cornu between her legs, and if she slips down to far it will go into her.
