She will probably be instructed to lean on the post when the whipping begins so she won't risk injury by being knocked against it by the whip. I was once whipped in public on a similar post; after stripping for punishment, my wrists were shackled to either side of the post with my elbows directly below my hands, the way she is restrained. Then they told me to lean on the post before the whipping commenced.
