I once tried to write that idea into a bachelor party story line, with the idea that the wedding night is for the bride so cruel, that the groom had to endure a crucifixion with rape at the bachelor party, to develop some empathy with the poor bride, which also faces the loss of her virginity. Needless to say that my groom performed badly on the cross and I drank myself mindless on that disappointing event....

In the early days of television, it sometimes happened that the image was broadcasted upside down. Clearly, the Romans also had a comparable problem during arena events!
It is a good pic in its details : the pattern of the skin colouring red, the deformations imposed by gravity!
