Another drawing by Montycrusto. He is really missing here.

Being pretty new here, I just found the two Montycrusto threads because of this one. I love the style and the B & W presentation.
What happened to Montycrusto? Did he delete or just not show up any more?
He asked to be removed as a user because he did not agree with the increasing number of AI images being shown here. For him, only hand-drawn or hand-rendered images were real art. He is now listed as a guest and can log into the forum at any time.

I didn't know the precise reason he left at the time, but I can sympathize with his viewpoint. He is a master artist with a unique style, and I hope he keeps creating his art.

So do I.

I love his works. And I still have fond memories of montycrusto because he was the first person I befriended when I joined this community years ago.

Unfortunately, he acted like I made a personal attack on him when we argued about AI recently. I doubt he still regards me as a friend.

I suppose some artists have very strong opinions and pride on their specific crafts, which is understandable.

However, I just wish more people understand that the existence of one form of art does not make another obsolete, and that the skill level or number of people who try making art in a certain way doesn’t invalidate it as a legitimate medium of artistic creativity.

I'm neutral on AI art , but as someone who has a job that is always threatened by automation, I absolutely understand. It really is a case that there is a sense of terror. A professional artist can be amazing but if an AI can pump out well done art, then NO MATTER WHAT job opportunities disappear, prospects go down the drain. Businesses ALWAYS look out for their bottom line, and if an AI can do cheaper, then professional artists go the way of the dodo.

It's like what we see at logistics. Automation means all you pay for is a handful of technicians to service robots, so you don't have to pay 200 workers paychecks, lost time compensations, health care, etc

His artwork is on my board, and his account is still active, but he left VoD in March, shortly after I started allowing AI.
If he did half as much sketching as kvetching, I swear. He spent more time complaining about AI than actually doing his art!
