I have often imagined a woman sent to the cross would not just be utterly naked, but might also have her hair cut off -- chopped off -- rather crudely, just to further emphasize her loss of all possessions and sense of self. She has nothing left but her body -- stripped down as much as possible. A thing to be abused, displayed, tortured, and disposed of as though she never existed. Psychlogically this would be devastating to anyone going through the process. Going from a person with things to someone with utterly nothing, not even the merest scrap of cloth to cover her body or the possession of the slightest dignity. All she has now is her cross and the nails through her flesh.
