I always wondered what knickers or panties were worn by nuns - surely, surely, not like these? No wonder the other nuns are whipping her, she is so obviously an unrepentant sinner.

In all of the nunsploitation films, they always seem to be wearing loinclothes tied at both hips...and we all know these movies are historically accurate
According to the Rule of St Benedict, monks were (and for all I know still are) only issued with 'femoralia', underwear, if they were going out of the monastery on an errand. 'Femoralia', literally 'thigh-wear' would have been a loincloth in his time, around 500. Nuns following the Benedictine Rule would probably have observed the same practice - except they were less likely to go out of the enclosure, and of course St Ben omitted to say anything about bras, or in those days breast-bands.
