When you read ancient writings about elections and politics or even more recent events (say the Mexican-American War) you realize that all you have to do is change the names and the dates and it could be today's politics.
Our toys (read technology) change but the human species really hasn't evolved that far emotionally since we fell out of the trees.
We just like to think we have because it makes us feel better about ourselves.
