I really like the Christian martyrs themes with the endless possibilities of devout young women allowing themselves to be put to death rather than renounce their beliefs although in this case I think it's Timothy and Maura a newly married Christian couple, Maura was crucified alongside her husband when she was of an age a couple of years younger than we are allowed to mention I think.

Maybe so, maybe no. :) Maura is supposed to be dark-skinned according to her name. In my previous posts I portrayed her, single or together with her husband, on my sketches and once on a linocut and as the plastic mini-figures.

The forest of the dead women

The persecutions of the Jewesses who dared to circumcise their children boys against the king's edict during the Maccabean wars, according to the chronicles, contain of tying some of the disobedient females to the trees and left them to die. Of course the circumcized boys were killed first. The customary sign of a condemnation to death was to be stripped naked, so nudity was obligatory for the prisoners of war and executed criminals, and we have no doubt that it was also used in this case. In general it is supposed to be the earliest form of the crucifixion.

Well thanks for the reply Andyman, I love writing stories from my imagination to go with your fantastic sketches.
 
Brother in nails, sister in pain

I know what do you think: you think we are a husband and a wife. Wrong. We never met one another before. We were simply crucified side by side. But watching her naked body curling up in shame and writhing in pain, listening to her prayers and complaints, hearing her weeping and painful moans I felt so impressed and so deeply bound with her like she was my wife. I know her better than any woman before and I found her beautiful, shy and so terrible ashamed but still good-hearted, that I think I fell in love with her! And after five hours of our agony I confessed to her when no one could hear us and though she answered nothing I saw clearly in her eyes that she was impressed and supported by my feelings. And two hours later she decided to reply and she confessed to me too, ignoring few men and women who came to watch us. They were nearly rolling of laughter when they heard the passionate words of the crucified slave woman but she paid no attention so I ignored them as well. I was so extremely happy! Now after five hours more she is slowly loosing her mind and her self-control and it is a pain for me watching her dying but I am happy that soon she will be suffering no more. As for me, I am still conscious and strong so it will require few more hours for me to die. But I will die with a strong hope that our souls will meet somewhere in the afterworld... is it possible?
