Once again thinking about ancient methods of crucifying criminals I was impressed with the simplicity and effectiveness of the most Roman inventions, this time the additional support for the buttocks, sloped to allow sitting but equipped with a peg to prevent slipping down. If the peg was really the relatively short and not very thick piece of rod, it wouldn't cause much wounds and allowed defecation, so the victim could be living for days. In case of the longer pole it will penetrate and perforate (if sharpened) or tear apart (if blunt) the intestines, causing bleeding and defecation to the inside of the abdominal cavity, thus intoxicating the organism and causing painful but quicker death. If the pole was thicker, it would stretch and then lacerate the anal opening with the same effect. The last piece of the set was a sloped support for feet, making their nailing with relatively straightened legs easier.
