If you use Premium Crucifixion Wood (or Olde Englishe Oake) those timbers would be plenty strong enough. Never use rotten timber, as one of the Cruxdreams models was bound to, so the Patibalum broke in the middle.
On another matter, I really loved the two sketches, there is just something about drawings like these. They may not be so "realistic" as photos, but they make up for it in "Impact".

That's all I get to do . . . except look, of course.
I fully understand your challenges in creating such visually awesome art. I'm a pencil/paper guy and all my attempts at drawing suck.
