I love this girl!
I agree with every word of your analysis. No Question Damian's is closer to the reality than the pristine nature of the painting (Though she is nailed and shows a surprising amount of blood).Understandable. She’s a babe.
But what strikes me most is the stark, frenzied contrast between von Mack's 19th century conception of what crucifixion was like and Damian's.
Once more, nobody really knows exactly how the Romans nailed human bodies to crosses. But beyond the unclean turn on I get from Damian’s, I believe his is a much more accurate reconstruction. It gets both a and a .
Sometimes, however, its the power of suggestion and what's left unsaid or concealed which drives our imagination to the highest enjoyment. In this case, for me, its the old version.
And I love the thread.Understood. Not shared, mind you, otherwise I wouldn’t have started this thread.
And I love the thread.
I can see me there!So do I.
Three more by NV, one by Markus, and the last by an artist whose name slips my mind. His subjects may be unlovely but his gritty realism is unmatched.
The last looks like an Atrox, but it is one I have not seen before.
This lady I’ve seen before, but until Phlebas posted her on Foundation I never realized she was supposed to be a long fantasized version of Xena Warrior Princess crucified nude.
Well, almost nude
That sawblade is brilliant, though. Notice how her feet aren’t nailed? It’s basically up to her to avoid that blade through the duration of ger torture by holding herself to the cross.
