Siss took the towel she was holding and threw it across the room and walked out the door. The sun was setting in the western sky. She walk to the east side of the house and began to roll a cigarette. Siss had never smoked before arriving in 1885, but the shear boredom had driven her to this diversion.

As she started to light her cigarette, the cool evening breeze gave her chill as it hit her sweat soaked dress. She threw the match to the dirt and went back inside.

Siss immediately began yelling at Messa and Connie. “Look it’s not what you were doing, it’s what you weren’t doing!”

“We have been here for six weeks and all we have done is try to blend in!”

“And! You two to are playing around like this is some Vacation we won on a game show!”

“I think maybe, Yupar has the right idea … at least she is doing something she likes and moving on with her life!”

“What are we doing?”

“The dumbest one of us is smarter than probably half that town put together!”

“Let’s stop blending and start taking charge!”

Messa looked up and said, “How are we going to do that? We’re Women in 1885, nobody will even listen to our ideas!”

Siss simply answered, “Then we’ll make them think they are theirs!”

I looked at the Rev and said "Then they should fit right in with your church."

"Look, Mr. Tree, I'm just trying to make a living."

"And they are not?"

"There is more money to be had bringing in brides from the east coast, even from St. Louis, than there is lumber and cattle."

I pushed my hat back and pulled off my Ben Franklin sunglasses and said "You have finally begun to interest me..."
