early on in this thread, there's a link for the fun slave-sales
that happen at medieval markets in Denmark each year -
it's time to remind folk - the site's been updated,
last summer (2014) was hot and sunny and lots of pretty girls were sold -
the 3rd catch at Gudvangen - a eul-like brunette in denim shorts -
even took a kick at her captor!

a slave-selling sculpture I've not come across before:



she's called 'The White Slave',
and it's interesting that it's the (1913) work of a woman
Abastenia St Leger Eberle,
who held advanced feminist views -
I think she intended it as a kind of protest.

PS I've checked her out on the net,
a very interesting woman - she did some fine models,
especially of working class/ immigrant kids
on Lower East Side NY.

'White Slave' was a protest against child prostitution -
needless to say, it ruffled some feathers,
efforts were made in high places in Chicago
to get it banned.

However if you look at ancient illustrations (from Classical times) it is Perseus who is nude, Andromeda is fully clad in an ankle-length dress.

Yes, (male) nudity was associated with athleticism and muscular power -
but (as in two of those three) Andromeda's garments are pretty much see-through,
and inclined to slip off her shoulder
