Why Do So Many Guys Use Or Have A Female Avatar?

Indeed he did - The 4th Dr Who in fact. (Tom Baker)
Terror of the Zygons, I believe.

I'm embarrassed to know that.
If William Shatner was here he'd tell me to "Get a Life!!"

If William Hartnell was here I'd be surprised - he's been dead for 38 years.

Just relax!

Something I always say!

....One time I called Sunphyre "sir" or "dude" or something male & Sunphyre responded "I'm a girl!". I pointed out that neither her name or avatar indicated she was female.....

Sorry but you got me to laugh there, Sunphyre is a nick so hellishly girlish that you should be put on the rack for missing the obvious. :D

But don't fret, you're not the first. In another forum I once pointed out that in this age where we can talk to everyone in at least most countries. There got to be misunderstandings from those who go on the last vowel in name alone.

I have a male friend who have a first name that's commonly used for females in Finland and USA, then we got the male name Ola in Scandinavia, and in Turkey there's Abdulla etc etc.

The 4th and the best . . . . or not, depending on your age!

Names aren't gendered in all cultures,
Sikh names are unisex
(gender indicated by Singh or Kaur)
And -a is feminine in Latin and the Romance languages,
it's masculine in Hindi and other north Indian ones.

Yes I used to have a couple of neighbours, Mr Pat and Mrs Pat :)
for Sunphyre I'd choose Samphire

a local delicacy round where I am

Looks something like a cross between asparagus and a fiddlehead fern.

Wild asparagus? I prefer wild and untamed blueberries myself.
(And have we managed to get completely off topic now haven't we?)

No big deal, we all are having fun. :D

I've seen threads far more OT than this one - so far! :p
I'm interest in this Sunphyre site, can we have a link or is it private?

Just to clearify: Sunphyre isn't a site. She's a person who's a member of another forum. I was just using her case as an example of the confussion that can be caused when the name & avatar aren't gender specific & there is no gender in the post ID.

I Googled "sunphyre" & came up with a publishing company, a male artist on Deviantart & a World of Warcraft character.:D

Oh as for a gaming character you might be right, when females play online games and especially Pvp based ones, they do not choose such girlish names at all. I remember one I met when I were gaming myself who had the name of a goddess of death taken from a certain mythology. Though also played male chars with names like skullcrusher etc.

And that's where I found a situation similar to what we got in this discussion.
There and on that server, quite a number of males tended to play females because they were nicer to look at. Whereas many females/girls at least had one big brutish warrior or tank.

So in the online world we can indeed be more flexible, even though I would ofc not create one account on a site and consistently pretend to be something else than what I am. But I have run into a few who done so, most of whom were gender bender/TV whatever.
