Perhaps the following report could clarify several questions about some of our ancestors ...

Introduction:

I was reading an interesting magazine-article about shoes in antiquity

when I accidentally noticed a much more interesting report:
an article by Maestro WELSH WEBB
about one of the decisive moments of roman history.

So here is the naked truth,
horrible and unbearable ...

During the 1st century the roman Senate was still relatively democratic.

However, after the enjoyment of several litres of illyrian wine,
two of its members, known as Eulalia Scotia and Julia Barbaria,
(picture 2)
developed a devlish plan.

So both convinced the successful Tribune and Chief-Executioner Melissa Magna (picture 3)
to build a coalition, a female variation of the former triumvirates,
and to eliminate all potential rivals.

Melissa accepted. And forthwith an age of terror (picture 4)
and despair (picture 5)
started.

And one mass crucifixion of captive and degraded Senatores followed the other ...

At the end there were only two remaining captives:
Miria and Livia.

Their fate shall be sung in this hymn ...

After several foregoing whippings chief-executioner Melissa brought them to a place near the crucifixion site.

And after a long walk they finally reached a place where two crossbars were already waiting for Miria and Livia.

Then, after a last undisturbed chat (picture 11)
both victims were prepared for the last walk.
(pictures 12 and 13)

And after some help by Melissa
Miria (picture 14)
and Livia (picture 15)
could finally start their last march, led by helpful Melissa.

Then the group had finally reached the place where the last remains of the roman republic would end,
as well as the lifes of Livia and Miria.

Caught in a mixture of panic and fascination
Miria and Livia kneeled in front of the crosses.

And their hearts filled with sadness and despair.

Then Tribune Melissa removed their loin clothes.
(pictures 22 and 23)

It was time.
Miria and Livia stared to the cross,
feeling that the next days would contain an unbearable quantum of agony.

The first one to be crucified was Livia.

Then Melissa took care of Miria.

After everthing was correctly done
the long, long suffering started.

And after some agonizing days
in particular Livia's state became worse and worse.

However, merciful as she is,
Melissa did everything possible to ease her victim's suffering.
And so she even offered a refreshing drink to the poor Livia.

And the agony went on and on ...

The horror went on.

In spite of the merciful drink
Livia's state became rapidly worse.

And for a last time she looked to her suffering companion.

Then it happend:
Livia expired.

Miria was shocked.

But she could not do anything.

Now she was alone in her suffering,
caught in an endless hell of agony.

But again Melissa demonstrated her golden heart,
offering poor Miria a helpful drink.

Miria sucked greedily at the sponge,
grateful for this little bit of mercy.

And her suffering continued ...

Miria was still alive.

But soon it would be over.

Slowly but constantly her suffering increased.

For a last time Miria looked to her dead friend (picture 45),
whose body was still hanging on the cross.

With her eyes still on Livia's body (picture 47)
Miria made her peace with everything
(picture 48).

Then death mercifully ended her suffering.

It was over.
Miria had expired too.

Modern archaelogists were able to conserve some remains of Miria's body.
So her partly preserved corpse was brought to the National Crucifixion Museum.

In case of Livia a conservation was unfortunately not possible.
So her body ended in another way.

Since this day both of them had to hide in a dense forest, somewhere in the North.

And soon the world had forgotten that they ever breathed ...

But now Melissa's reign was finally undisputed.

And from now to all eternity Emperess Melissa ruled,
wise, strict and consequent.

And whenever anyone said or wrote nonsens, either in Rome or at this Forum ...
he or she was forthwith executed in the only thinkable way.
