...sometimes the young woman is a mother to be...

When he came back from a year of service he found his wife ripe with child. When she would not reveal who the father might be he crucified her until she would change her mind...

a long time back - well, about 4 years, in the Coffee Shop I think -
I posted thoughts about the similarity (as I see it)
between being crucified and giving birth
(not that I've experienced either) -
the pains, the muscular demands, the movements.
It proved quite controversial,
some members were shocked at the thought.
Is it still shocking?

I see similarities - both include suffering. Both are exertions. Both are, to a great extent, done under some duress. Both contain an element of peril, pain, life and death. They are edge experiences.

Pp played a very active role in the birth of his three sons all of which his wife, their mother, endured with no medication, no pain relief apart from heat packs dutifully and lovingly prepared and applied.

The longest was over 12 hours from beginning to his first cries, the shortest still over 6 hours.

It is almost impossible to describe her suffering, her endurance, the terror and the sheer joy of each one.

PP I can identify with what you say.
They can be very different. Our first was about 7 hours, and to this innocent young man it was a long and brutal ordeal! Very hard to see your loved one suffering like that, too, and be unable to do much for her. Our second popped out within half an hour of entering the hospital car park. Very different experiences for the same woman.
It must be the closest we come in our modern world to the blood and violence of our ancestors' lives.

Eul, I remember that discussion. It is a topic which shaves close to something sacred for most people, and it is hard to discuss. I understand your point, it's one I've thought about too. But controversial, yes.

While Tree has not experienced childbirth except his own and he doesn't remember that, his mother related to him that he was a very overdue baby (C-sections and inducements were rare in 1956) they left for the hospital (10 minutes away) and within 30 minutes of leaving the house Tree was no longer an acorn but a sapling!!!

Tree

Total hospital bill (3 days) was under $100...

I heard a discussion about it on the radio a few days back -
one woman described it as being
"like having a red-hot iron pushed right up inside you,
and then being forced open with a car-jack!"

Wow! She should be in advertising!

She's obviously a natural.
:confused::eek:

But, despite that graphic description, Pp bets that she happily chose to repeat the experience. :)

Unless, of course, she didn't know what caused the condition in the first place. :D
