This is a fascinating sequence, providing some interesting details of the cross construction. The treatment of the planed, virgin patibulum contrasts with the coarse, faded wood grain of the stipes.

The second, unoccupied cross presents a rear view, showing how the beam is slotted to accommodate the tenon, before tightening down on the tapered dowel. Designed to give lasting service, the new patibula are bound in iron to reduce splitting, and fitted with lifting eyes for use in erecting fully assembled crosses.

#3 shows the condemned at full stretch, immediately following suspension, and before the feet are secured. The defocused, grassland background is lit consistently with the crucifix in each picture, and the restrained whip marks, bloodstains and glinting nails are becoming signature features of the 'Hair and Nails' style. Nice work again, Em!

In Pentecosta, crucifixion is almost routine. Some are more willing to endure the agony than others though...

I'd looove to hear your thoughts for this one. It was another quick commission, but I think it turned out well.

A little cleaning is necessary before the cross is erected and displayed to the public.
