There is a place in the desert where the government abandons individuals that do not fit the system. Arlen (Waterhouse) is a fresh outcast. It does not take her long to be captured by a group of cannibals. Arlen finds herself chained and gagged on the ground. Her right arm gets cut off and ends up as cannibal lunch. The same happens to her right leg later.

Arlen remains a captive of the cannibals for a while before she can escape eventually, using a stolen skateboard for transportation, since she cannot walk on one leg. She gets lost in the desert another (friendly) outcast finds her just in time and takes her to a place where the people are a lot nicer.


This is not the end of the movie, but more the first 20 or so minutes. Sadly, "The Bad Batch" loses its pace after this remarkable opening. The rest of the movie just cannot live up to it. But you get to see some familiar faces. Jason Momoa plays the head of the cannibal tribe ("Game of Thrones" fans know him as Khal Drogo and he plays basically the same role here). Jim Carrey has a cameo as the guy who finds the exhausted Arlen after her escape. And Keeanu Reeves stands out as the crazy leader of a surreal cult.

The italian actress Greta Scarano, in the double role of Margherita the lover of Friar Dolcino and her daughter Anna,
was in this series put through bondage/torture situations at least twice : first time she is chained in a cell with outstretched arms while roughly treated and humiliated by Gui (the Inquisitor). Again she is shown suffering tied up to the stake while said Inquisitor sets fire to the pile of wood with a torch. In both circumstances she is (unfortunately) fully clad.

Marie Louise Trommel better known as 'Marion de Faouet' was an outlaw woman in 18th century's France. She was born in 1717 at Faouet,Bretagne, France and died 1755 after she was caught,processed, tortured and eventually hung.
She was the head of a gang specializing in robberies and thefts perpetrated exclusively at the damage of rich people ,affluent merchants or strangers to the place. Poor people were always spared . The gang never dirtied their hands with killings or injuries to the victims. This initially inspired a sort of benevolence and popularity among common people in times of misery along with a sense of sharing her independence and mocking of the authority. She had a family : a husband (married in secret)and 4 daughters. When she died in 1755 her husband was already dead , by hanging too, years before. Marion's biography was filmed in 2 parts for French TV in 1997: it has some impressive moments, intensely played by French actress Carole Richert, of branding, whipping, other ordeals she endured including hanging at last.

The not so far future: Driven by fascism and religious fanatism, England has established a brutal dictatorship. Evey (Portman), a young woman from the working class, meets V, a mysterious resistance fighter who always wears a mask. She even lives with him for a few days.

Evey is taken during a police raid and questioned about V's identity. She cannot answer the questions, since she has never seen him without his mask. So she is "processed".


Her hair is shaved off.


She gets sprayed with hot steam (the scream she utters in this scene is just bone-chilling).


And she is dunked into water until she passes out.


At least she gets to spend some recreation time in her cozy cell.


"V for Vendetta" is one of my all time favourite movies. And that is not only because of Natalie Portman, who is super hot in it (at least until the captivity bascially turns Evey into a living zombie). The general cast is excellent, including Hugo Weaving, John Hurt and Stephen Fry. The movie also addresses some serious social issues that are still present in our world today (and judging from the news, are growing again).

And you will find some great quotes, like:
"People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people."
"Artists use lies to tell the truth while politicians use them to cover the truth up."
"There is no certainty, only opportunity."

It is packed with gore, sex, female nudity, whippings and revolting scenes of ritual humiliations. It runs on stupid clichés wrapped up,nonetheless,in a supernatural aura making this movie become a cult of his genre. The whipping scene of the female protagonist (actress Lisa Livane) is appreciable. A summary of the plot : a young man is attired into a sect of witches. To complete his initiation he needs his wife Alina to join the Satanists. Since she is reluctant the witches design a series of events aimed at breaking her down.

Yeah, this is weird. Who knew that French Satanists dress just like the Ku Klux Klan? But what the hell, we Americans have also borrowed French toast and French kissing. And what's with the vaseline ring on the camera lens? I guess that's the supernatural aura. I wish they would have just stayed with the whipping. That I can pretty much understand.
