I'm sorry, but respecting your opinion, I feel the need to defend spanking on the ass.
Mainly for three reasons:
- It is a very fleshy and plump part so the sound of the whip is more intense
- It's a private part so the component of humiliation increases by showing that part and being whipped in it.
- I think that the ass is less sensitive than the breasts or the back, in this way, the punishment can be longer.
However, I also really like whipping on the breasts, because of their plumpness and sexual appeal, however I think they are a very sensitive and fragile part to carry out a very intense whipping.

I'm not really sure of the reason for the flogging -- I did find the entire series of "La catedral del mar" online, but only in Spanish with Russian overdubs. My Spanish is very rudimentary and my Russian non-existent, so I wasn't really able to follow the plot. I'm pretty sure she was whipped to death, though: the whipping ends when one of the henchmen says "esta morta" (she is dead), followed immediately by the closing credits of the first episode. The second episode starts with the teenage boy staring at the patch of blood remaining on the floor where the flogging took place, but we never see her again.
The first episode has one more bloody flogging scene, taking place at a wedding where the local lord arrives halfway through the reception. We see the bride being obviously scared out of her wits going through the motions at the reception and then being dragged by the lord into the house while the groom has to look on powerlessly. We hear her desperate screams along with the sound of flogging (but don't get to see it). Cut to the lord leaving and the groom entering the house to find his bride bloodied and bruised, obviously just having been flogged, and presumably also raped. The groom then challenges the lord and also gets flogged (on-screen). I attach a short edit of that scene as a zipped MP4, cut to stay within the 10MB upload limit, plus screen caps.

In a wealthy family, a child (boy) who was looked after by this nanny tragically died. It was an accident. The boy's father decided that the nanny was to blame for this and flogged her to death.
