Some good old fashion Roman entertainment indeed. What narrative would you supply with this image?

I really like that you put your victims closer to the ground. It's very hot and I suspect closer to historical reality. I also like imagining the crowd being able to have easy access to the face, chest, genitals of the victims to slap poke and further torture the victim. I've wondered about eye-level crucifixion.

I've been playing around with some image ideas on carrying the cross. Is it better to see these men carry a full cross or just a cross bar? Also, is it better to see them marching naked or with a skimpy loincloth? I like the idea of a small loincloth; since when they reach the hill, it's more fun to rip off their coverings; stripping them naked right after they are nailed up.

I think the cross bar is better. More realistic and it allows the victim's torso to be fully displayed during the via crucis. Different films and passion plays do it each way. I think the just the cross bar (patibulum) is way better. It also allows for a rope lead around the neck, which is a nice touch, I think.

As I cited in my thread the bible states the the people stands far apart, it might be an indiction that the crucified were close to the border, again citing

Luke 23, 49 "And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things."

So the catholic narrative, where the 2 Marias kneeling on the feet of Jesus might not be apropriate, as you say and it is more that the audience do some inapropriate things with the crucified.

not bad, but I would like more details of the process and psychology... than their erections

I think the cross bar is better. More realistic and it allows the victim's torso to be fully displayed during the via crucis. Different films and passion plays do it each way.
