Witches pinched in their tits with hot tongs as they are carted off to public torture and execution. XV century
Although this punishment was often inflicted on witches; these illustrations depict the punishment of Philippa of Catania, her son and granddaughter.
Born a Sicilian peasant, Philippa became wet nurse to the son of Robert, duke of Calabria and a good friend of his wife. As a reward for her services, she was married to Raimondo de' Cabanni (Raymond of Campania), a freed African slave who rose through the Neapolitan military to become knight and wealthy. After Raimondo's death and that of Robert and his wife, Philippa fell from favor. In 1345, she was accused of being involved in the assassination of Andrew, Duke of Calabria along with her son, Roberto and granddaughter Sancia (apparently the daughter of another son). There are differing accounts of their execution, but the most common is that they were carried in a cart and torn with red-hot pincers then Sancia was burned at the stake, Philippa was disemboweled and burned and Roberto was beheaded.
Even at the time, it was suspected that the accusations against them were false.

This is both as sad for the young woman as for the bull, both abused and killed for Nero's stupid shows. :(
You remind me of this patrician's child who tolld "look at that poor leo which does' nt get its own christian"

You can read one of the options for describing the execution of the murderers of Prince Andrew in the famous collection of Alexandre Dumas "Les Crimes célèbres".
