Its "Barbarie", as in the Barbary Coast, the coast of North Africa. Barbary means "land of the Berbers".
Our beloved Barbaria is a barbarian but she's no Berber.

"Thaïs"
By Adrien Tanoux

Thaïs was a Greek hetaira, a term that has various interpretations, but could best be described as a "courtesan".
She accompanied Alexander on his conquest of Persia and may have been his lover. She definitely became Ptolemy's lover and accompanied him to Egypt after Alexander's death. It is not known if she ever formally married Ptolemy I or if she ever held the title of Queen (he did have at least two official queens) but she did bear him at least three children and exercised great influence at court.
The Roman's demonized her as they did any powerful and sexually free woman. This likely inspired Dante, who admired the Romans where wrote nasty things about her, to consign her to Hell in the Divine Comedy. She was put among the flatterers who are confined in a shit filled trench. Gustave Dore showed her punishment in one of his illustrations.

'Holly' was posed by erotic model, Ivory Flame, for Manchester artist, Louis Smith. The subject represents a female version of Prometheus.
The picture won the second prize in the 2011 BP Portrait Exhibition and was exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London. :)

"Dejah Thoris led captive by Thark women"
This is an illustration by Fortunino Matania (1881-1963) of the Edgar Rice Burroughs' novel: "A Princess of Mars"

This is my favourite Dejah Thoris picture. The style is old fashioned, but she is stark naked as described in the text and very attractive. Even the Thark women are strangely alluring! :tits:
