A modern crucifixion... The woman is brought to the cross fully dressed and is tied to it. The law requires anyone sentenced to death by crucifixion shall hang from the cross nailed and naked until they are dead. The crew stands above her admiring her natural beauty. She stares up at them and begs them not to nail her to the cross or remove her clothing. The man holding the sharp knife says she should have considered that before she committed her crime.

In a matter of minutes her clothing is cut from her body and her wrists and feet are nailed to the cross. Her ass lays in a pool of her own urine she released as the spikes were pounded through her limbs. No effort is made to clean her. After all, she has been sentenced to die for her crimes. The head guard glares down at her and says "Raise this whore so all can see her suffer the tortures of the cross before she dies!"

Nice contribution, her once pretty dress will be removed, her bare figure raised in the cool of the morning to hang all day, at first shivering slightly and then burning in the midday sun. Will you feel sorry for her, offer her a drink? Do you wonder what brought her here?

Interesting questions... Would Tree feel sorry for her... offer her a drink... wonder what brought her here?

First, Tree is a carpenter and was selected for this job because of of his skills with wood, hammers, and nails. The soldiers would never ruin their uniforms nailing a condemned criminal to a cross and risking getting their blood on themselves. This is what the paid help (me) is for. The job pays well- puts food on the table. Usually the dreck crucified are surly looking bastards either begging me not to nail me or taunting me, daring me to nail them to the cross.
This one is different. After her dress is cut away she glares at me almost asking with her eyes 'are you really going to do this to me?'

Of course I am. There are enough other carpenters that could take my place. I drive the spikes through her arms. She screams like they all do except hers are higher in a young woman's voice.

They raise her up so she can be seen hanging naked from her cross. There is a good crowd there. It is not often a woman is put to death hanging naked nailed to a cross.

Phlebas asked would I give her a drink. I probably would but the soldiers wouldn't allow me to. She be dead before tomorrow and I still need the job nailing these poor condemned people to their cross...
