Absolutely. Preference matters. I had said so in a post some time ago. I think the poll there was about loincloth or naked but I think that the community being split on it is a matter of preference and not historical accuracy.

Regarding the topic of whipping though, I’d definitely love to be whipped to the point of permanent scars. Just nothing deeper so that I don’t have to worry about damaging internal organs or something.

Also if criminals being crucified are going to die anyway, I suppose the most severe of whippings won’t matter. Modern day, I’d say the most you could go without being killed or permanently disabled is the preference I’m asking for. ^_^

I've been considering this recently as well. In fact I ended up writing it as a sort of analysis or essay!

I believe 30-35 lashes with the Bullwhip is the limit, assuming we're whipping a healthy mid-20s female with a voluptuous physique. The lashes can be delivered firmly but will need to be distributed around her body.

It depends on what you mean with "delivered firmly". The bullwhip is a very variable tool in different hands.

setting examples and making sure that everyone gets the memo sometimes proves to be a wise investment

it also depends on the wealth of the owner compared to the price of the slave in the market, a guy who owns hundreds or even thousands of slaves can maim and/or kill a few just because he feels like it, to make a point, out of a whim or whatever, pretty much like wealthy people sometimes destroy more-or-less valuable stuff "just because"

further, your average slave in Ancient Rome and well into the Middle Ages wasn't particularly expensive, even "lower middle-class" people like artisans, merchants or storeowners owned one or two, and child slaves were very cheap because the crazy high child mortality rates made them a very risky investment that you then needed to feed until they were useful for something, so if you had bought a few a dime a piece who had survived until then (or simply had them bred at home), it was very much like killing a pet and people are known to kill pets in a fit of rage after much larger investments comparatively

this perception that slaves were somehow highly valuable is related to our modern perception of people being valuable, in reality they were just merchandise or tools with ups and lows and bullish and bearish markets and highly variable value/price depending on place, time, characteristics of the slave, even superstitious stuff, you name it

even when and where they were valuable, destroying valuable property for a multitude of reasons including signaling wealth is not unheard of

also, violence is rarely rational, especially when it has no major consequences, you can start beating someone and at some point realize, "oh fuck i've killed them, dad is gonna get mad at me for breaking this thing"

fuck, ancient Romans even had this carnifex guys, that's a service that you paid for to have your slaves punished, tortured or killed!

Depends on many things. I am reminded of the video “Pushing the Limits: 1000 stroke caning” by Isabella Sinclair and slave sky. And yes, 20 years ago, I actually counted the strokes. ;-)

I've most def marked skin in the past and will again, including carving my name onto her flesh-Hey alpha predators mark their terrtory don't they. Now the key is how one goes about it. In the case I'm thinking of, I tied her tit so tight there was zero blood. Then used a brand new razor sharp surgical scalpel and only cut through the first layer of skin. Looked real mean but her main complaint was itching, not pain.

Sing it, brother! I carved my initials in 4 inch high letters on her hip, and we went home and fscked like bunnies after. Unfortunately, we had to let it fade, but even now, nearly a quarter century later, you can faintly see it if you know where to look.

How do canings compare? Well concerning the fact that Singapore, the country in question, is one of the safest and most harmonious nations in the world, I would say that canings are brutal just by that result. That and the testimony of former criminals subjected to it also speaks volumes on the brutality of the practice.

Now in BDSM play, as stated by others/Darkprincess69 specifically, the fetish play related to BDSM is about enjoyment not actual suffering. And as I have said in other parts of the forum if you are an individual that needs actual excruciating pain and agony to reach sexual arousal and satisfaction, then you need to stop those actions imminently and seek some mental health assistance.

That is my two cents, I'll step of my high horse now. lol
