This is one of the best nailing scenes.The crowd, the number of executioner’s, the detail. It’s all part of a powerful image. There are quite a few women in the crowd watching Sabina get nailed down. I wonder what they are thinking? What they are feeling?
 
She is wild like having a sex

She has a strong man between her legs, and she is being penetrated forcefully, so there are similarities :)

This is one of the best nailing scenes.The crowd, the number of executioner’s, the detail. It’s all part of a powerful image. There are quite a few women in the crowd watching Sabina get nailed down. I wonder what they are thinking? What they are feeling?
I tried to show a variety of reactions among the women in particular. The men are all laughing and joking about what they're seeing. Some of that is probably forced, trying to look like the sights and sounds of agony don't affect them because that would be unmanly.

The women, there's the woman in the brown dress who looks a bit aghast at what she's seeing. The woman in the blue dress and pink cape is the older, more experienced of that group. She has seen all this before, is judging Sabina's performance and whether she is being well-punished. The woman in the blue dress next to her is younger, tries to act like the brutality doesn't bother her but it does, sometimes.

Behind the cross, there's a black girl whose reactions vary between horror at the brutality to laughing along with the men and some of the women. She takes her cues from others about how to act. The woman in orange is Verina, the prostitute who met Sabina at Lucilla's crucifixion and got to know her as they worked together to torture Publius on his cross next to Lucilla. Standing next to Sabina's cross watching her nails being driven in, she's staring at her face, making sure she's really who she thinks she recognizes. She sympathizes with Sabina and wonders how she could have ended up on a cross here.

The blonde in the green skirt and grey top is not sure she really wants to be here. This brutality is a bit hard to take, but she doesn't want to just walk away, because her acquaintances there might laugh at her for being too soft. The woman in the brown dress next to her is horrified and riveted. She can't look away, most of the time, even though she is horrified by what she's seeing.

All of these women more or less imagine themselves in Sabina's place, the humiliation of being naked in front of everyone, and then the terror and panic they see, overwhelmed by these men and then brutally nailed to the cross. They are caught and drawn in by the action from time to time. It's exciting and horrifying, fascinating.
 
What a fantastic answer! So many well thought out character choices. Each one of them trying to be part of the crowd while processing their own shock, and perhaps even twinges of horror. And the choices to have colorful dresses is a brilliant touch—much more inspired by actual history than the typical Hollywood brown sacks for the plebeians and white togas for patricians.

I didn't take the time to do a character profile for each of the ones in the crowd but I probably should have. That wouldn't have to have included much beyond their behavior so I could keep their reactions consistent across the scenes they were in. I often do those for characters in stories, at least the main ones, not only for their psychological behavior but also to keep things like the color of their eyes and hair straight across the story. It can be easy to forget and then a reader will notice and call you out on it. I have often wondered that. At least the agony of childbirth produces a new life at the end, while being nailed to a cross is going in the other direction.

It is interesting to consider both as ordeals endured by a woman. Having witnessed it (not experienced it directly thank heavens!) I can attest that childbirth can be pretty brutal, pretty primeval. Not every one is but the ones that are give you some sense of what a prolonged painful ordeal can be like.

having been through it more than once, i'll just say that i'd prefer the cross :p
 
The hammer came down again and again, now a series of clanging deep thuds as the spike drove deeper into the timber, wedging the bones in my wrist apart, sinews snapping.

As soon as Ajax relaxed his hold on my left arm, I struggled to pull it away, but it was much too late. The nail that impaled my wrist was already deep into the beam. And still the ringing sound of the hammer went on as the executioner pounded the nail deeper into the timber. I screamed helplessly with each blow that drove the big iron spike inch further through my wrist as the crowd watched and enjoyed my suffering. I writhed in agony and my vision began to darken in its edges. I thought I might faint, prayed that I would, anything to escape this torture! But through the horror and agony, it came to me that this is only the beginning of your punishment. It’s going to get much, much worse.

I have always enjoyed your work, Jeddak. But the Sabina series is a masterpiece of detail and torment.
 
The executioner continues to pound the big nail deeper into the beam, permanently securing Sabina's wrist to it.

I could have left those last two scenes out, but I wanted to show Sabina staring at her wrist while the nail was being driven, and that the helper did not have to hold her arm any longer because the nail was already solidly into the timber. Then I wanted that last scene I just posted to show her abandoned to agony as the executioner keeps pounding that nail in deeper.

All of this activity goes on for several minutes and there's too much drama here to ignore. Now Sabina's hopes for a last-minute reprieve are gone. If her domina, Julia Lepida, should have a change of heart and stop her execution, Sabina will not escape the cross unscathed.

Good set..I wonder if she is not in that horrible pain, probabaly she will arouse in this kinda situation as she didnt close with that much with men before. But that thought is only happened as I am just seeing these images...if I'm the victim, I'm sure I will be urinating only. ;)
 
I like the concept of the "Point of no return."
The moment the whole world changed for Sabina.

I did this scene for continuity in the action between nailing Sabina's left wrist and her right. Here, while Sabina is staring at that big nail protruding from her left wrist, Ajax is shifting around to grip Sabina's right breast to hold her chest and shoulders down while accepting Sabina's right arm from Hercules. In the meantime, Antius waits for Hercules to move out of the way so he can take his place to nail Sabina's right wrist. Even for something as horrific as crucifying a young, naked girl, there is a workflow to be followed. This part is being narrated by Sabina.

Through my haze of pain, I realized that the hammering had stopped. I turned my head and blinked back my tears to stare at the huge nail protruding from my bloody wrist. There was growing pain, but also the horrible throbbing pressure where the shank of the nail had forced flesh and bone aside as it wedged the wound wider.​
I felt Ajax shift his weight above me, move his left hand from my chest, slide his right hand across and cup my right breast. He stretched his fingers out to gather a handful, squeezed it tightly, and leaned his weight on it so the timber beneath me pressed into the back of my shoulders again. At the same time, I was conscious of both Hercules’ and Ajax’s hands on my right arm, bending it, positioning my wrist on the timber. And I knew before I looked that Antius must be there, ready to nail my right wrist to the beam.​

The images of the nailing are incredible. The setting, her facial contortions... simply incredible. I identify with Sabina and her plight. Over twenty years ago, through over-drinking and several other terrible decisions, I found myself in a similar state. Definitely not as deadly, nor as planned, but in over my head with no way out. I wasn't being nailed to a cross, but was merely being clonked on the head by a broad with a board (pun intended), while her guy crouched on my abdomen and cut away my pants with a knife. As Jedakk relates, at that moment there was no sexy feeling, just terror. My recollections are of flashes, like strobe lights going off at intervals in a darkened room. The colors are strangely washed out out, and a roaring filled my ears. I have since determined that my pupils had shrunk to pinpoints and the sound was my own heart trying to explode in terror.

Sabina had to deal with the consequences of Julia's decisions as she died by inches, hanging on that cross. By Jedakk's account, she was rewarded by several powerful orgasms. I have come to terms with my own follies that led me to that place with years of using that terror as sexual energy. To me, Jedakk's images of the nailing are pure rocket fuel.
