I presume I missed something deleted...

But the first waves of the invasion were truly on a suicide mission. Back then the allies had air superiority and overwhelming numbers. In today's warfare the Germans would have been smart to get the hell out of there.

But that was then...

...shock and awe then didn't refer to smart bombs but the carnage on the beaches. Tree draws his hat over his heart and prays generations to come learn this was not just a historical battle but a historical sacrifice for freedoms we enjoy today...

Indeed and the dutch people from my generation is even now grateful for the battle they fought for our freedom

I have an Uncle, died at a place called Overloon, near Venlo I think, on 12th October 1944. We'll be over this autumn (fall, sorry) to pay our respects. 20 years old.

But if he'd known you and Pkin, Admi, I think he'd say it was worth it.

Freedom shouldn't be taken for granted. That is the message of the Oorlogsmuseum in Overloon. In the museum, situated in this beautiful and wooded park, you will experience the occupation and the persecution, but also the resistance and D-Day. And, of course, the Battle at Overloon during the liberation of the southern Netherlands.
