Maybe this is a stupid question, so excuse a Yanks ignorance; but, why does England compete as a separate nation? In the Olympics, she is part of the United Kingdom. Wouldn't a better team be fielded - and the odds of winning improved - if the best players of England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland were combined under the Union Jack? There isn't a team from Bavaria or Catalonia, right? It just seems like the Brits are cutting their chances.
...It's kind of l1ke the Iraqi Olympic team. It's like getting Shiites, Sunnis, and Kurds to hug...

in the (ongoing) Rowing World Cup, etc. etc.,
but under the (geographically and constitutionally incorrect) name of 'Team GB'
