Nailed close to the toes.. any vertical force would let the nail rip upward to the bony part of the foot :)
IMHO A serious flaw positioning the nail like that

Oh yeah! Absolutely!
Take a look at this cramps of the toe nerves how make curling the toes so much!
Take a look at the number 3 picture!

Here the cramps/spasms in her toe nerves are more than terrible.

You could probably rip the nail out by pulling the foot up. That’s why it has to go through the heel! But I doubt anyone would be able to do that consistently, do you can nail them how you’d like.

I would honestly prefer a much more slanted footrest if there is to be a footrest at all! The rest you provide is simply far too kind!

As you want! If you prefer a footrest more inclined it's always a good thing! :)
Anyway don't forget to put her feet overlapped one over the other, possibly the nail hammered in the lower metatarsal part and make her toes scrunched really hard for the agony!

a footrest is necessary for nailing through the lower metatarsal
the phillipines know that, seems it works good
