One of the issues here is the discussion is focused on the Western News cycle which is likely not her target audience.
Modern news has become completely devalued. The vast majority of news is discussed for only a couple of days, a week at most. The information flow is now maximally overloaded. News like this may attract a little more attention, but still not for long. I am almost certain that this story will be almost completely forgotten in about a month, because at least until the New Year, only Trump, Harris, Ukraine, Gaza/Lebanon will be discussed. I am exaggerating a little, but nevertheless.
No matter how you look at it, a lone speaker almost never changes anything. This is an objective fact.

Oh yes, the more I learn about other cultures, in the past and present, the more conscious I am that the modern West may be the odd one out - not 'superior' or 'inferior', but exceptional in many ways. Self-sacrifice is, of course, regarded as admirable and honourable, but when it's glorified as something to be aspired to, as the highest 'end' of life, it can easily tip over into fanaticism.
Here we seem to be on the verge of discussing politics, which, it seems, is not welcome here)
Okay, I will say it in general terms. I have already gotten used to almost everything in the crazy modern life. But sometimes I am still surprised by this desire of the West for some kind of global messianism, which in recent decades has continued rather by inertia. I am surprised that in the West (I am now talking about government authorities, I know little about the opinion of the people) they so stubbornly continue to believe that the modern Western path of development is the only correct one, and all alternatives to it are heresy, or something like that.
I am not saying that the Western path of development is bad, but it is far from ideal. Therefore, sometimes it is both bitter and funny for me to watch how Western leaders and officials perceive with surprise, indignation and even rage the fact that in the world there are some state systems that... well, differ significantly from the notorious "Western democracy".
I will probably not give specific examples. Otherwise, I will definitely be accused of "indulging in politics" here))

Yes, it's a bit close to the wind, though obviously a topic of interest to us here. But getting into stuff that's going on in the world today, or in the recent past, risks being contentious. One of many things I love about the Forums is the diversity of people here, from all over the world, and the very fact that we are, in various ways, kinky does, I think, make us somewhat semi-detached from the prevailing outlooks of our own cultures and countries, and able to find interest in, and even to some extent empathise, with world-views very different from our own.

Similar interests does bring the world together

Yes, I agree about that. Although, I can't call myself a cosmopolitan. I clearly feel a sense of belonging to my people and my country. I can't feel like some kind of "citizen of the world". It would be hard for me to live if I emigrated.
But at the same time, the objective reality in my country is that the current domestic and foreign policy course irritates me more and more. It's not fear, and not shock, like some of my particularly nervous fellow citizens) It's just irritation that increases with each passing year. Therefore, I do not rule out that in 10 years I will emigrate, if everything continues in the same spirit as now.
But I don't want that. Even if I do emigrate, I am sure that I will not be happy after that.

made steak for my birthday as I'm celebrating today. Idk if anyone else likes steak but this is seared blue one minute each side at 500 degrees
I also really like steaks, but I prefer medium rare. :hambre:

as a casual drinker I find myself enjoying cosmopolitan. It’s labeled as a feminine drink but considering it has 40% alcohol while beer has 5% it doesn’t seem feminine to me
I think it got its reputation because it was the favorite drink of the characters on Sex and the City, which is where most people - including me - first heard of it.
The cosmo is believed to have originated in gay bars in the 70s, which may also contribute to the "unmanly" reputation.
I've never had on myself. I prefer my vodka either in a martini (stirred, not shaken), a black Russian, a Moscow mule or just straight up. But, I do like cranberry juice so maybe I'll try one someday.
Drink up and be happy.
