Supposedly Goering in the 1920's had raccoons imported into Germany for raccoon coats, and now they are an invasive nuisance.

I don't think Goering can be blamed for this one. One population in Hesse is believed to have started with 2 pair of pet raccoons released by a farmer in 1934. Another population near Berlin originated with 25 who escaped a fur farmer during a bombing raid in 1945.
Currently, there are estimated to be one million raccoons in Germany.

I do like my pet panda Tom I've had since I was 6 from my Uncle T.

Ohio and the states of the old "Northwest Territory" are full of German immigrants. Carl Schurz introduced the term (now ubiquitous) "Kindergarten" to the United States. He was an important supporter of Lincoln and the old (as opposed to the current) Republican Party. He even got a postage stamp.
