Wragg - The Clock Carrier
The Clock Carrier - Wragg.jpg
Many years ago, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the farmers of the Black Forest area of Germany used the harsh winter months, when normal farming came to a standstill, as a time to create the most exquisite carved clocks. The clock dealers would send ‘clock carriers’ out to collect these clocks. Too delicate for carriage by horse and cart on the steep, rough, roads, the clocks would be carried in a wooden frame worn on the clock carrier’s back.

Here is a simple short story about a clock carrier’s surprise discovery. It’s a bit of a shaggy dog story, but stick with it…..

Marcella & Hasturan - Marcellas Crucifixion
Marcellas Crucifixion - Marcella & Hasturan.jpg
It is hot summer day in Salona, a city of the Roman province of Dalmatia. Word has spread through the city and a crowd has been gathering outside the city walls since early morning. It seems there’s been a crucifixion at the place where such executions occur. It is not the usual crucifixion. The condemned is an exceptionally beautiful young woman. She has consistently insisted that she is innocent! Even as she hangs on her cross she curses and groans under the relentless, grinding, soul-destroying agony that is crucifixion she screams out her innocence, as though that will get her taken down or even get her any mercy. She knows better. When she was nailed to this cross and raised up she knew that she and the cross would be one until she dies.

Windar - Swimmers in hot Water
Swimmers in hot Water - Windar.jpg
Don't ask me how, but somehow the 2016 Summer Olympics ended up in Pomodoro, the capital of Tilapia, rather than Rio and the swimmers who partied too hard and got in legal trouble were female, rather than male. All the rest is ripped from actual headlines.

Naraku - For the Good of the Regiment
For the Good of the Regiment - Naraku.jpg
Despite it's victory over Napoleon, the British Army in the early Nineteenth Century faced a serious problem. Losses incurred during thirty years of wars with France, increasing employment opportunities created by the growth of industry, and competition from the Navy, were combining to create a manpower shortage. The Chatterley Commission, in 1817, concluded that, given the continued expansion of The Empire, by 1825 the Army would barely have enough troops to protect the frontiers and preserve the peace within the Empire. Should Britain face another foreign war, be it with the United States, Russia, Prussia, the Ottomans or a resurgent France, or rebellion from within, the Army could not field enough troops to be effective. Reliance on native troops, as was being practiced in India, had many inherent problems and risks. Expansion of the Empire would soon become impossible, leaving Africa and Asia open for rival nations. For this reason, the Commission made a radical proposal that would have been deemed insane a few years earlier: the enlistment of women.

NO TRESPASSING -Community Service - Loxuru.jpg
"It is a great day for Montavelin! Our beloved saints are back!"
“Get those cobbles from under my bottom!”
Probably, the building smelled like 'lone women inside'.
She never had heard that sound. It did 'hump-hump-hump-hump-hump'. It sounded like a muffled beat on an oil drum.
"If you get laid with an enemy spy, you never are on the winning side!"
"All day hard working, and overnight being hard worked on by an overpressured steam engine!? I said forget it! Let them keep their money!”
"Cougneu d'bèrouettes! Fât' grisoux! “
“You pick up the local language very quickly! But what does it mean?”
“No idea, but it sounds very cursing!”
"My granddad always said the most dangerous places for a man are the backside of a horse and the front side of a naked woman!”
All her modesty was hanging to a plastic aureola now.
"I decide who is innocent here!"
"Get off my roof, idiots!"
“Euh! What is he planning to do?” Patty asked with a worried voice.
“He is going to whip us, Patty dear!”

Andy 01 - Gabriella in Kytherramne
Gabriella in Kytherramne - Andy 01.jpg
The night before she was crucified, Gabriella Sivilla partied. From his balcony, working in the mellow evening by the light of a graceful lamp – a good piece that, made by Eumenides a century before – the tribune could see the blaze of lights and hear senseless laughter and parrot talk. Kytherramne’s bright young things had flocked around, perfumed and coiffeured and bright with jewels – and that was just the men, he thought sourly. Perhaps it was inevitable. Kytherramne hadn’t been a free city since Alexander’s day, and for the past fifty years it had just been an insignificant part of Asia province, costing Rome a damn sight more than it was worth in Galerius’ opinion. Still, it was a useful base for keeping down pirates preying on the trade between the Great and Lesser Inland Seas. Galerius kept a flotilla of picket boats and a pair of solidly built, blunt-rammed biremes, not big but fast and low in the water. The pirates hated them.
