From Wiki, with a wee bit of editing:

On 11 April 1848 Castelnuovo del Garda was almost totally destroyed and burned (including the church and the medieval tower) by the Austrian Imperial Army, during the first Italian War of Independence. That day, 400 men of the Corpo Volontari Lombardi fought against 3,000 Austrian soldiers, who subsequently burned the city, killing around 89 local citizens (46 of them women and children) as reprisal for the revolutionary actions taking place in the region

The Austrian army was headed by Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky, who was based in Verona, and the commander was Wilhelm Thurn. The Italian Volontari had been sent by Major Luciano Manara, and were commanded by Agostino Noaro.

A new one to me, and an interestingly different 'take' on Charlotte Corday, undressed for the bath herself, and patiently waiting what's coming for her.
