Italian Risorgimento May 15, 1848 Massacre of Castelnuovo del Garda - Castelnuovo massacre and deportation of Verona hostages, including Don Antonio Oliosi
From Wiki, with a wee bit of editing:

On 11 April 1848 Castelnuovo del Garda was almost totally destroyed and burned (including the church and the medieval tower) by the Austrian Imperial Army, during the first Italian War of Independence. That day, 400 men of the Corpo Volontari Lombardi fought against 3,000 Austrian soldiers, who subsequently burned the city, killing around 89 local citizens (46 of them women and children) as reprisal for the revolutionary actions taking place in the region

The Austrian army was headed by Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky, who was based in Verona, and the commander was Wilhelm Thurn. The Italian Volontari had been sent by Major Luciano Manara, and were commanded by Agostino Noaro.

"The Death of Marat", Edvard Munch
A new one to me, and an interestingly different 'take' on Charlotte Corday, undressed for the bath herself, and patiently waiting what's coming for her.

Andromeda
Actually that's La schiava, the slave, by Odoardo Tabacchi, but could as well be Andromeda.
He was keen on erotic poses, especially with peril or helplessness -

Eulalia of Barcelona/Merída

1 F. Blanch, probably 19th Century: Eulalia stripped in public
2 Cibera, 1852 (illustration for Gaspar i Roig, “Año Cristiano”): Eulalia tied to a cross almost naked, soldiers coming with torches to torture her
3 José Noguera, 1855–70 (an “aleluya” from Spain): series of scenes showing the martyrdom of Eulalia

I had forgotten about this martyr until I saw the welcome message from Eulalia, Barbaria and the others. (Thanks to all of you for that.)

Aside from the interest members have in these Forums, the dreadful thing about Saint Eulalia's fate is that she was so very young. So, for all the young people who are not even in high school, if you have a problem with the governor, S.T.F.U.

An interesting finding on the theme of inquisition
The theme mentioned is an inquisition scene with a woman stretched and with her feet over hot coals.

In connection with the post concerning Eulalia above, this scene is somewhat similar to the fantasies I had beginning at about Eulalia's age. I recall a schlocky movie, Mark of the Devil, in which a girl is repeatedly racked, has her (bare) breasts burned, the soles of her feet burned, and then her tongue torn out. As a final flourish, she is burned alive. Both awful and cool.
