Number 5 is also Jane Grey. It depicts the moment when, after being blindfolded, Jane groped around trying to find the block. I don't recognize the painting, but there is a similar - and more well known - work by Paul Delaroche.

Even so, that's not a very efficient looking axe. A headsman's axe had a long and reasonably flat blade. No wonder she looks apprehensive. She's thinking she's in for a rough time.

I stand - actually, sit - corrected.
Mary showed some class at her execution. Still, the executioner botched the job. The first chop hit her in the back of the head. The second didn't go all the way through the neck and he had to use a knife to get the head completely off. Fortunately for Mary, the first blow must have knocked her unconscious and may have been fatal.
