“Babylonian Marriage Market” (1875) is a painting by Edwin Long that depicts a scene from Herodotus’ History of young women auctioned into marriage in Babylon. It was Long’s response against the women’s suffrage movement.
The “Roman slave market” by the neo-Greek painter Jean-Léon Gérôme depicts a North African setting where a man inspects the teeth of a female Caucasian slave traded by Barbary slavers.
Gérôme also painted the Greek philosopher “Diogenes” (404-323 BC), lighting the lamp with which he was to search in daylight for an honest man.
“Valerie Therese Leon” (b. 1943) had the leading role in the 1971 British horror film 'Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb,' based on Bram Stoker’s 'The Jewel of Seven Stars.'
What is horrific about the movie is the movie. It was so ‘good’ that even the director, Seth Holt, died of a heart attack on the set in the arms of one of the actors.

Irish girlFor those who don't know Gaelic, "uisce beatha" means water of life, Lebenswasser or in Latin Aqua Vitae, and refers to a Whiskey (Whisky). However, I think the Scottish spelling differs slightly from the Irish.
