Reluctantly when our dinner was done I had to draw cards. I had begged my friends not to do this as I was doomed to at least twenty-four hours on the cross and there was no reason for them to suffer as well but they all insisted and eleven of closest friends an even Joan Tree dined and wined with me!
But now I had to draw cards. I pulled two cards from the twelve before and the other ladies turned their cards, the ace to the queen of spades, over. My first card was the ace of hearts. Natasha would join me on the hill.
The second card was the Queen of Hearts. Roxie held the corresponding queen. The other ten women’s emotion ran from relief to disappointment they would not participate in the final lotteries.
Blaire was disappointed but assured me she would dig my grave should I need it. Professor Barb Moore promised to cover my crucifixion in her class at the University of the Virgin Martyrs. Siss asked for my ‘little black book’ and swore to take care of all in it. I doubt she knows Bull and Gunner are in it!!!
They do all vow no matter the outcome they would be there for me when I am crucified and raised. Ten leave and Natasha and Roxie join me in a bedroom where for all I know will be the last bed I sleep on. After noon tomorrow the only thing my backside might know is the squared stipe of ‘Messaline’s Premium French Crucifixion Wood™’ and Roxie and Tash risk the same!
They do their best to comfort me and their best is better than I could have hoped.
They assure me that even if they joined me in death it would be worth being with me crucified. I tell them Tree has offered me two options. I could be crucified with my arms in a narrow ‘V’ but if I only had do twenty-four hours I had a great chance of surviving. If he nailed me with my arms spread wide and the dice didn’t go my way I would die sooner- more than twenty-four hours but not days on end.
They tried to be helpful with Natasha suggesting I have my arms in a small ‘V’ so if I won the roll of the dice I could live the twenty-four hours. Roxie suggested the arms wide so I wouldn’t suffer so long. I remind her she might have only 24 hours to do. We decided not to talk about it again.
