Pp saw Don McLean live in about 1975 or 76. He sat on a bar stool on the stage with just an acoustic guitar and played without a break for about an hour and a half.

Read a report this morning that he has finally revealed the meaning behind his 1971 hit American Pie, one of the most enigmatic songs in pop history, and made public a previously unpublished lost verse.

In notes accompanying the sale of his original manuscript, which was auctioned for $US1.2 million in New York on Tuesday, he described the ballad as a morality song that charted the decline of America and its loss of innocence.

He talks of a lost innocence but what does that mean?

When I when to California in 1961 and 1964 you could build a bonfire on the beach with driftwood. You can't light a cigarette there now.

In my hometown of St. Louis, Missouri my neighborhood was devastated by the construction of Interstate 44 which contributed to the 'white flight' to the suburbs.

In the mid- and late-sixties in north county people moved away when a black man moved into a modest ranch house. His name was Bob Gibson, possibly the greatest pitcher ever in major league baseball...

Where am I going with this??? I don't know... Think before you act...

Today in 1997 my favorite female singer-songwriter, Laura Nyro, passed away from ovarian cancer at the young age of 49. Oddly, it was the same type of cancer that claimed her mother, who also died at age 49.
She wrote a ton of songs that other's turned into hits. Eli's Coming (3 Dog Night), Wedding Day Blues (5th Diminsion), And When I Die (Blood,Sweat and Tears), Stoned Soul Picnic (5th Dimension), and many others. She wrote all of these before she was 19. Her versions of these songs, while not hits for her, are in many ways, more soulful than the versions that became hits for the other artists, just no comparison. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

A little story about how I came to know the music of Laura's:
I kept seeing on record labels of albums I had the name "L. Nyro" as the songwriter, and always wondered who it was. Then I read an article in the Dallas Morning News in April 1997 about her death from ovarian cancer at the age of 49, and the mystery of "L. Nyro" was solved. I then decided to purchase one of her albums. All I can say is it changed my life, some of the best music I have ever heard, and I have heard a lot.
I will forever thank the Dallas Morning News for that article, because she has forever enriched my life with her beautiful music. We definitely lost a great artist way too early. After buying one of her albums, I just had to get them all.
She never achieved fame in her lifetime, like Joni Mitchell for example, but she definitely is as talented as Joni, if not more ( in my humble opinion she is).
If you are unfamiliar with this great artist, I highly recommend you check out her music.

I'm sorry, for their favorite singer.

I do not know his work, I seek to know.

BB King dead, 89, in Las Vegas....the undisputed King of the Blues.

BB King, whose scorching guitar licks and heartfelt vocals made him the idol of generations of musicians and fans while earning him the nickname 'King of the Blues', has died aged 89.

Pp hopes that the latest version of his trademark Gibson guitar, all of which were called Lucille, was not too far away. Pp has his copy of the album BB King recorded with Eric Clapton called Riding With The King playing right now.

I feel strange giving your post a "Like" because I am very sad, for I love BB King's music so much. I have many of his albums. I love the blues and BB King, along with Howlin' Wolf, were my favorites. Very sad news:(

She isn't Lucille - actually an old Japanese copy of an Epiphone Casino - but it was still nice to play a bit of a shuffle rhythm over some 12 bar blues this afternoon. Had BB King soloing for me through some headphones.

The Strat isn't Clapton's "Blackie" either but she still sounds juicy through those Laney valves with a little bit of drive dialled up.
